Pests invade our homes because the conditions they need for survival are ideal. To prevent many pests from invading, we can change some simple things about our homes and lifestyles that change the conditions from ideal to inhospitable to pests. The things that any pest needs to survive are a food source and a place to live. Follow the tips below to reduce pest invasions:
- Sanitation – clean up spills of food and liquids that insects and rodents live on; wash dirty dishes and clean up rubbish and debris in your home and yard.
- Pet Maintenance – keep your pet on a vet-prescribed flea or tick program; pick up pet waste right away to avoid attracting pests.
- Home Repair – keep doors and windows closed, screens repaired, trees, bushes and other foliage next to the home neatly trimmed and grass mowed.
- Observation – be able to relay detailed information to your pest control operator so that they will know how best to help you; collect samples whenever possible.
